Davensberg eng

Davensberg, today part of the town of Ascheberg, meant some houses around the small castle of Davensberg. The village's name is mentioned the first time in 1256, when "Hermann von Meinhövel", presenting himself "from Daverenberg", as witness in a charter of the bishop of Münster. In the 14 th century some craftsmen lived southwest of the castle, protected by the small "Emmerbach" creek, the wild and impenetrabele Davert woodland, and castle's rights for the craftsmen. Further enlargement of the castle took place about he year 1500. The only remaining tower of the castle and St. Anna Chapel from 1510 testify that period. Since 1813 Davensberg belongs to the town of Ascheberg. For many years Davensberg had at least 10-12 houses with about 50-60 people, today about 2000 citizens live in Davensberg.(source: Dr. H. Müller "725 Jahre Davensberg", Heimatverein Davensberg 1980).The place of the until 1980 Kötterhaus (= peasant's house") Frypörtner, the garden and two other useful areas ("Dorfanger, Im Hemmen") were identified on historic maps from 1826.
